Roger Nelson For County Commissioner

Vote November 5

Addressing Pine County's Challenges

Pine County faces significant challenges, including substance abuse and mental health issues. While county government often addresses the fallout, we must focus on identifying and tackling the root causes. Additionally, I fully support the push for high-speed broadband, but I will not compromise the maintenance and improvement of our actual highways and gravel roads. Recent trends have leaned towards mere maintenance instead of necessary upgrades, especially with the local ½% sales tax designated for this purpose.

Keeping Taxes Low

It’s crucial to curb the rising county budget and tax levy, which have increased every year. With our population declining, we need to be more prudent with our resources. I believe in maximizing our current assets rather than continually seeking more funding from fewer residents—a sustainable approach is essential for our future.

Promoting Economic Development

To promote economic development in our county, we must broaden our focus beyond tourism and recreation. While they are important, we also need to attract stable, light manufacturing businesses. These industries will provide a solid economic base and support existing service-oriented businesses. I will advocate for practical solutions, including TIF assistance, addressing zoning issues, and enhancing infrastructure to create a thriving economic environment.

Priorities as a County Commissioner

Lead.

Leading means building consensus among board members while standing firm on what I believe is right, fair, and just.
